Sino Minerals Investments Company Limited (SMI) is a 100% Ugandan-owned mineral exploration and mining company established in 2010 and headquartered in Bugolobi Industrial Area, Nakawa Division, Kampala. SMI is Uganda's largest iron ore producer, operating the country's biggest mechanized iron ore mine at Buhara in Kabale District. 

The company's flagship asset, the Buhara Iron Ore Project, holds a proven reserve of 30 million metric tonnes at an average grade of 64% Fe hematite, with current production capacity of 40,000 tonnes per month. SMI is also the only operation in Uganda using iron ore wet crushing technology, a process that eliminates dust emissions during crushing while improving ore quality for downstream steel production.

Beyond Buhara, SMI continues to explore magnetite deposits across the Mid-West, East, North,and Karamoja regions, building a growth pipeline that will extend its role in Uganda's iron and steel value chain for years to come.

SMI supplies high-grade iron ore to leading industrial partners including; Tembo Steel, National Cement Company (Simba Cement), Abyssinia Group of Industries, Terra Industrial Development Co., and Yaobai International Holding.
